10th Annual Joshua Harr Shane Golf Classic

This summer, members of the JHSF team will be hosting the 10-year anniversary of the Joshua Harr Shane Golf Classic, an event that integrates both sport and philanthropy, by providing a quality recreational and social outing, while simultaneously giving aide to families with ill individuals.
For an event that started out as a day for friends and family to remember and commemorate Josh, has rapidly expanded through the years to include several functions that allows participants to play, bid, laugh, and give. The growth of the tournament has allowed the total amount of funds to increase year after year, which has resulted in a cumulative total of just over $250,000, with around $30-$35,000 coming from last year’s event. With the generated funds 100% is allocated to different programs to aide families and children. Programs that have been recipients of funds include the Embrace Kids Foundation, The Phone Home for the Holidays program which provided our soldiers with phone cards, and different scholarships for young students who display characteristics that parallel the goals of the JHSF.
In addition to the 18-hole scramble tournament which welcomes players of all ages and skill levels, participants can bid on a multitude of items available in both the Chinese Auction, and Live Auction, which features among other valuable collectibles sports memorabilia affiliated with some of the local professional teams, including the Trenton Thunder. Another major function is the “Joshua Challenge”, which gives all interested participants a chance to win various prizes connected to the different holes on the East and West Courses. Participants may also enjoy a provided lunch, dinner, and open bar (beer-wine-soda-water), and are also eligible for different awards including “Longest Drive”, “Closest to the Pin”, and “Hole-in-one”, and awards for the 1st and 2nd place teams on both the East and West courses.

Over 500 businesses have donated to support this event, and currently we are starting this process by welcoming donations from individual companies who wish to make a direct impact to the cause. Sponsorships are welcome from any company with interest regardless of location, which may establish the relationship via “buying a golf product”, in which an item such as a golf ball, golf towel, golf cap etc. may display the respective company logo in exchange for the monetary donation. Companies can also choose to sign on as a shirt sponsor by displaying their logo on the event t-shirt in exchange for a monetary donation. Advertising space in the event brochures may also be purchased to display a company name/logo in the form of a full-page ad (hole-in-one package), ½ page ad (eagle package), ¼ page ad (birdie package), and a business card ad (par package).

The event will be held on Tuesday, August 9th, at the Mercer Oaks Golf Club in West Windsor, New Jersey. The tournament will occupy both the East and West Courses. If registration is not done pre-event, participants may arrive to register at 11:00 am, which is accompanied by a buffet lunch. This will be followed by the shot-gun start of the tournament at 12:30 pm. Participants may then stay for a cocktail party, dinner, and awards following the golf tournament.
